Piers Lane plays the Steinway he urged Snow Hall to buy
Pianist Piers Lane returns to Snow Concert Hall to perform Chopin's 21 Nocturnes on a Steinway he recommended the hall buy.
Three years ago, Piers Lane sat at a borrowed Steinway Model D at Canberra's Snow Concert Hall and knew immediately it belonged there. Piers Lane told the hall's staff to buy it.
They did. Now the legendary Australian pianist is returning to perform an evening devoted entirely to Chopin's Nocturnes, 21 solo piano pieces spanning from when Chopin was just 17 to near the end of his life.
Lane will share brief context before each piece to guide audiences through the composer's musical journey. The concert runs October 29 at 7 pm.
Lane says the Nocturnes draw huge crowds wherever he plays them, last year 13 New Zealand cities saw record audiences. He credits the hall's acoustics and the piano's clarity for the perfect setting.
