Jetstar staff stage strike during holiday peak
Jetstar customer service staff at five major airports will strike for one hour on Friday after pay negotiations failed.
Jetstar customer service workers will strike for one hour on Friday at Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Cairns airports, with staff also ceasing non-essential duties for the full day. The action follows failed pay negotiations between the Australian Service Union and the airline.
Jetstar has offered a 2.1 per cent pay rise with backpay to April, building to 3 per cent from April 2027. The union says this does not match the airline's circumstances: Jetstar's domestic earnings are up 15 per cent this year on record passenger numbers, and parent company Qantas Group is profitable.
The airline says it has strong contingency plans and does not expect flight impacts. The strike occurs ahead of the Grand Final weekend and school holidays.
