Our Newcastle considers running candidate for 2027 state election
Our Newcastle may run a candidate in the March 2027 NSW state election.
The independent movement that swept Newcastle council elections in 2024 is now looking at running for the state parliament. Our Newcastle president Leisha Parkinson said the group is thinking about its role in the March 2027 NSW election.
The group is also listening to members about what comes next. Former lord mayor Ross Kerridge will not stand himself.
Kerridge stepped down as lord mayor last October to have cancer treatment. Kerridge has encouraged locals to engage in politics.
Lake Macquarie MP Greg Piper already said he will run in the state election. This will be his last campaign.
