Tom Skerritt, star of Alien and Top Gun, dies at 93
Actor Tom Skerritt, known for Alien and Top Gun, died Wednesday from natural causes at 93.
Skerritt had a six-decade career. He played iconic roles in M*A*S*H, Alien, and Top Gun.
Skerritt also starred in the 1990s TV series Picket Fences, winning an Emmy in 1993. Skerritt appeared in The Turning Point with Shirley MacLaine and A River Runs Through It with Robert Redford.
His family said he was known for his humor, curiosity, wisdom and generosity. Skerritt cared deeply about creativity, storytelling, service to veterans and helping others find their voices.
Skerritt was born in Detroit on August 25, 1933. He began acting while studying at UCLA, initially hoping to become a writer or director.
