Nationals defend $2m Bendigo splash park pledge as locals call for pool fix

The Nationals pledged $2 million for a Bendigo splash park, sparking criticism to fix the pool instead.

The Nationals committed $2 million to help build a splash park at Botanic Gardens in White Hills, which is on the City of Greater Bendigo's wish-list. Local residents posted on Facebook arguing the town should repair or keep its swimming pool.

One said children need to learn to swim properly in a real pool. Another resident questioned whether Bendigo could afford a "$2 million fancy sprinkler system".

Nationals candidate Andrew Lethlean defended the project. He said a splash park provides a safe environment for young children while parents relax nearby.

The funding is part of the Nationals' election campaign pledging money for regional Victoria.
