Anthropic's IPO valuation halved as losses mount
Anthropic's expected IPO worth dropped from US$2 trillion to US$1.5 trillion after massive losses.
The AI company's losses stem from US$72 billion in accounting adjustments tied to the value of financial tools it issued to raise money. Despite the losses, Anthropic's revenue jumped to US$16.3 billion in the half-year period, up from US$1.1 billion a year earlier.
The company also reported Q3 revenue of US$16.8 billion, up 45% from the previous quarter. Investors at Anthropic's investor day last week discussed a lower worth of around US$1.5 trillion, a big step down from the roughly US$2 trillion previously expected for the November share sale.
The AI spending nearly quadrupled to almost US$9 billion. A weaker response could affect the wider AI market, whose near-term prospects investors see as hinging largely on Anthropic's IPO success.
