Sydney Marathon handed out medals bearing Munich's stadium
Munich's Allianz Arena, not Sydney's Allianz Stadium, was etched on the marathon's medals.
Runners finishing Sydney's marathon on 30 August will get medals with pictures of landmarks they ran past: the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. But organisers put the wrong stadium on them.
They etched Munich's Allianz Arena instead of Sydney's Allianz Stadium, which the course passes. Organisers called it an "unfortunate error" but said it gave everyone something to talk about.
The back of the medal shows a design by First Nations artist Ambrose Killian.
Why it mattersYour marathon medal will show a landmark from the wrong city. But the organisers handled the mistake with good humour.
