Former RBA board member Ian Harper said another rate hike before year end is plausible, matching market odds of about one in three.

The Reserve Bank increased the cash rate to 4.6 per cent in September, its highest level in 15 years. Markets are pricing in roughly a one in three chance of a hike on Melbourne Cup Day in November.
Harper declined to say whether a November increase was likely, repeating only that it was plausible. The RBA board had typically had split votes on monetary policy around 30 per cent of the time over the past decade.
No treasurer tried to influence him during his tenure, Harper said.
