NextDC soars more than 42% as Goodman and Digital Realty buy stakes
Goodman Group and Digital Realty announced purchases of stakes up to 9.9% each in Australian data-centre operator NextDC.
Australian data-centre operator NextDC saw its shares surge more than 42% on Thursday. Goodman Group and U.S.-listed Digital Realty announced purchases of up to 9.9% stakes each at A$9.50 per share.
NextDC's board called the investment opportunistic, despite recent setbacks. The company had disclosed a power supply delay at M3 Melbourne and revised its fiscal 2027 guidance downward.
Both Goodman and Digital Realty told investors they have no current intention of making a takeover bid for NextDC, though they reserved the right to do so. NextDC's rise came as the US data centre sector weakened.
CoreWeave shares dropped about 9% and Iren fell roughly 11.2% on Wednesday. The US sell-off followed Democratic victories in the midterm elections, which raised concerns about tighter regulation and restrictions on data centre development slowing AI infrastructure buildout.
