Electric cars outsold petrol vehicles again in October
Electric vehicles claimed 23.1 per cent of all new car sales in October, up from 7.3 per cent a year earlier.
Australians bought 107,493 new cars in October, 6.7 per cent more than the previous year. Electric vehicle sales surged dramatically: more than 24,800 new electric cars sold, while petrol-powered vehicle purchases dropped 35.9 per cent.
Hybrid and plug-in hybrid sales more than doubled. Fuel prices remain elevated since fighting began in the Middle East in February.
Two utes still led sales overall, but Tesla's Model Y and BYD's Sealion 7 cracked the top five. The trend shows drivers are thinking about running costs when choosing a car.
