Hand-built Defender V8 arrives in Australia, starting at $403,000

Land Rover is selling custom Defender Classic V8 models to Australian buyers for £209,000 plus delivery and tax.

Australians can now order a hand-built Defender Classic V8 through Land Rover dealers. Prices start at £209,000 (about $403,000 AUD).

Total cost including delivery and taxes will likely exceed half a million dollars. Each vehicle is built from an original 2012-2016 Defender and fitted with a 5.0-litre V8 engine producing 298kW.

Buyers choose from two body styles: the 90 or 110. They can customise paint, leather, wheels and accessories using an online tool.

The V8 sprints from 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds (90 model) and reaches 170km/h top speed.

Price vs Ineos Grenadier

Why it mattersThe remastered Defender costs about five times more than a brand-new Ineos Grenadier, its modern successor, making it a collector's piece rather than an everyday vehicle.

AustraliaAustralian buyers can now order a bespoke luxury off-roader through local Land Rover dealers, though the price restricts it to high-net-worth collectors.
