Stabbed pilot saves 174 on Israel flight after diverting to Saudi Arabia
Captain Smit Machchhar, stabbed by another pilot, managed to land a Flydubai flight safely in Saudi Arabia with 174 people aboard.
An Indian pilot flying a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv was attacked and stabbed by another pilot mid-flight on Wednesday. Despite his injuries, Captain Smit Machchhar stayed in control as passengers and crew broke into the cockpit and overpowered the attacker.
The plane diverted to Tabuk in Saudi Arabia and landed safely. Netanyahu said Machchhar saved the lives of 174 people and stopped a potential catastrophe.
Machchhar has more than 9,750 flying hours and was described by colleagues as calm under pressure. Machchhar is recovering well in hospital.
