RSL says government is listening as veterans fight 67 defence site sales
Labor believes the proposed sales could generate $3 billion, but the veterans' group wants them overturned.
The RSL, a veterans' group, says its campaign to overturn the sales is getting some movement. RSL national president Peter Tinley told the National Press Club on Monday that the government was listening.
The plan would sell off, either wholly or in part, 67 military sites around Australia. Labor believes the proposed sales could generate $3 billion.
Among the sites are Victoria Barracks in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Perth's Irwin and Leeuwin barracks are also included.
Former governor-general Peter Cosgrove urged the Albanese government to scrap the planned sale of Sydney's Victoria Barracks. Tinley said the Albanese government has been listening, though the two sides still disagree in some areas.
The RSL is focused on the overall outcome, not on individual sites, Tinley said.
