Selwyn Snow Resort ends season six weeks early
Rain Thursday washed away remaining snow. Temperatures stayed too warm for snow-making to work.
Selwyn announced Saturday it would close after Thursday's rain damaged the remaining snow at the NSW resort. The resort tried using snow-making machines but temperatures didn't drop low enough and the air was too humid.
Selwyn said it will upgrade its snow-making systems for 2027. Nearby resorts Perisher and Thredbo stayed open but with fewer lifts.
Australia's ski season normally ends around the October long weekend.
Why it mattersFamilies planning ski holidays lose weeks of operating time. Resorts lose revenue. Climate change is shortening ski seasons across Australia.
