$250k warning system coming to Adamstown railway crossing early 2027
NSW is installing a digital signage system at Adamstown that alerts drivers when trains cause long delays.
A wireless link between rail-crossing equipment and traffic signals will trigger electronic warning signs at approach points on Bridges Road and Brunker Road. When train gates stay up for extended periods, the system tells the signs to alert drivers.
Drivers can then take alternate routes and avoid long waits. Adamstown will be the first location in NSW to get this technology, starting early next year.
The crossing has frustrated commuters for years, with drivers sometimes stuck for up to 15 minutes waiting for trains to pass. A longer-term solution, the Lower Hunter Freight Bypass, is a billion-dollar project years away from completion.
NSW Transport Minister John Graham said the digital signs will mean faster, more reliable journeys around Adamstown.
