Days after election loss, Bolsonaro son disappears then surfaces in Florida
Flavio Bolsonaro fled Brazil to Miami. This was after he lost the presidential election and faced corruption charges.
Flavio Bolsonaro is the son of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro. After losing this month's presidential election, he disappeared from Brazil and arrived in Miami while facing corruption, money laundering, and tax evasion charges.
A court ordered him to surrender his passport. Instead, he vanished, traveling through Argentina and Ecuador before boarding a private jet to Miami.
His lawyer told the court on Monday he would not flee, saying he would fight the charges as intimidation. The Trump administration said it would approve his US entry visa.
This decision is likely to deepen tensions between Washington and Brazil. Flavio Bolsonaro loses his immunity from prosecution when his Senate term ends in February.
His father, Jair Bolsonaro, also fled to Florida after losing in 2022 but returned three months later. He is now serving 27 years in prison for plotting a coup.
