Llanberris Athletics Reserve opens to the public after 99.7% vote
Council voted to open Llanberris Athletics Reserve as a free public space, with 99.7 per cent community support.
Ballarat council voted to open Llanberris Athletics Reserve as a free public space. The reserve served as the city's athletics hub from 1959.
A new facility opened this month. A six-week community consultation got 882 submissions.
About 99.7 per cent supported public access instead of commercial development. The synthetic track will stay open for jogging and walking.
But it will no longer meet competition standards. The council will remove athletic equipment like the discus cage, pole vault mats, and hurdles.
Future plans include lighting for evening runners and better signage. Eventually the space will have a playground and picnic areas.
