Cyclists tackle 4000 km tandem ride to raise money for mental health
Michael Matheson-Deng and Bryce Taylor begin a 4000 kilometre tandem ride from Perth to Canberra on 1 November.
Michael and Bryce will leave Perth on 1 November and ride a tandem bike 4000 kilometres to Canberra in about 40 days. Michael and Bryce are executives at Dogs Canberra, which trains kennel dogs for community walks.
The program lets people interact with dogs without long-term commitment. The ride raises money split 50-50 for Lifeline and Dogs Canberra.
Dogs Canberra fills a gap for people who want pets but can't commit. Dog interaction is important in a transient city with many students.
Tandem riding requires close communication between riders. It challenges them both physically and mentally.
Services like Lifeline can be called on 13 11 14 to support people struggling.
