Man convicted of assaulting bouncers avoids jail with community order
Jake Pizzuto pleaded guilty to assault. He received a 15-month intensive correction order instead of going to jail.
Jake David Pizzuto, 23, of Wilton, punched one bouncer in the mouth and kicked another in the genitals after being refused entry to The Grand Hotel in Wollongong. After a security guard placed a hand on Pizzuto's chest and told him to move back, a fight started.
One bouncer ended up with a split lip. Pizzuto was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.
In Wollongong Local Court on November 3, he pleaded guilty. Judge David Williams rejected a defence submission for a non-conviction order, saying alcohol-fuelled violence at venues must be punished.
However, Williams noted Pizzuto's genuine recognition of his poor behaviour, work with a psychologist, and lack of prior violent history. These factors led Williams not to jail him.
Pizzuto received a 15-month intensive correction order with 200 hours of unpaid community service.
