Eisenberg says Batman Razzie blocked him from studio films
Jesse Eisenberg credits a Razzie for his Lex Luthor role with ending his studio film career.
At the BFI London Film Festival, the Social Network star described how winning a Worst Supporting Actor Razzie for Batman v Superman changed his career path. "I couldn't get into studio movie parts anymore because I had won a Raspberry Award," Eisenberg said.
He saw the shift coming and chose to move on instead. Although Batman v. Superman has fans, Eisenberg's eccentric Lex Luthor remained controversial since the film's 2016 release.
Rather than chase studio roles that no longer came, Eisenberg learned to write and direct his own projects. His 2024 film A Real Pain and The Debut, premiering in December, came from that shift.
He reflected that the industry tells actors what it wants, and smart actors adapt.

AustraliaNo direct Australian impact yet, but illustrates how Hollywood's critical consensus can redirect careers regardless of an actor's talent.
