Heaps Gay says the landlords shut the venue soon after opening, despite grant support and public protests.

The Divine Playhouse, a queer arts space housed in a de-sanctified church in Sydney, was shut down after the landlords behind 420 Kent Street said it was engaging in offensive trade. The venue had just opened with NSW Arts Minister John Graham attending, alongside Christian protesters outside.
