Leawarra Crescent residents face water cuts and blocked roads during $300m
Construction of 181 new social homes is disrupting residents' access to water, rubbish collection, and their properties.
Residents of Leawarra Crescent in Delacombe are reporting serious disruption from a $300 million construction project building 181 new social and affordable homes. Water has been cut with no advance notice, bin collections missed, and roads often blocked, sometimes trapping residents on both ends of the crescent.
Open holes at work sites are raising safety concerns for families with children. One resident, Jean, missed medical appointments when both ends of the crescent were simultaneously closed.
Housing Victoria says contractors are using control measures including traffic controllers and street sweepers deployed multiple times weekly. The City of Ballarat says its role is limited to approving the subdivision and monitoring permit compliance.
Residents should receive advance notice of planned water or power disruptions from the utility company. Anyone with concerns can email Housing Victoria at [email protected] or contact the council's customer service team.
