Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan approved for execution

Trump approved firing squad for Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 at Fort Hood in 2009, the first military execution since the 1960s.

Trump approved the firing squad execution of Nidal Hasan, an army psychiatrist. Hasan killed 13 people at the Fort Hood military base in Texas on 5 November 2009; 12 of the dead were soldiers.

Nidal Hasan would be the first US soldier executed by the military in more than 60 years. A military jury sentenced him to death in 2013.

During his trial, Hasan conducted his own defence, called no witnesses, and made no attempt to deny the charges.
