Soldier dies in Army training exercise at Mount Bundey
One Australian Army soldier died and five others were injured during a live-fire exercise at Mount Bundey, near Darwin.
A soldier was killed during a training exercise at Mount Bundey on Saturday night, about 100 kilometres south-east of Darwin. Five other soldiers were injured in the same incident at the live-fire training ground.
All five injured soldiers were airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital: two by helicopter around 7:30pm and three by plane about 9:30pm. The Defence Department confirmed next of kin had been notified but declined to release further details.
NT Police are assisting the coroner's investigation. This is the second Australian Defence Force death in 2026, following Warrant Officer Lachlan Muddle's death in May during a parachute training exercise.
