Another head injury at Warrnambool boat ramp tests patience
A man hit his head and needed six stitches after slipping on the same wet surface locals flagged as unsafe.
A man fell on the slippery roadway leading up to Warrnambool's boat ramp and struck his head hard enough to split it open. An ambulance treated him and he needed six stitches.
The man was on the foreshore with his grandchildren when his feet gave way. The incident is the second to spark complaints in recent weeks.
Peter Sandow, a regular user, said similar falls are happening all the time. He and other locals raised alarm in August about the ramp's slippery surface.
Chief executive officer Andrew Mason said the boat ramp is cleaned every six days and pressure washed when budget and tides allow. Boat ramps and tidal infrastructure can present inherent slip hazards due to constant exposure to seawater.
Council is liaising with the Department of Transport and Planning about better long-term solutions.
