Fowler withdraws from Matildas squad as partner Cleary recovers from surgery

Matildas star Mary Fowler has withdrawn from upcoming games. Her NRL partner Nathan Cleary is recovering from emergency surgery.

Matildas star Mary Fowler has withdrawn from the squad. Fowler was going to play against Germany and Haiti.

Football Australia made this decision after talks with Fowler, Manchester City and Matildas staff. Fowler's partner is Penrith Panthers NRL star Nathan Cleary.

He had emergency leg surgery after an injury in last week's preliminary final. Cleary suffered a broken bone and dislocated ankle in a tackle.

Cleary is now healing in Sydney. Fowler recently came on as a substitute to spark a Manchester City comeback win over Arsenal.

She showed no sign of injury. Leah Davidson, a midfielder for Charlton Athletic, has been called into the squad as Fowler's replacement.
