Orange greyhound track prompts Mitchell Highway speed limit shift
Greyhound track developers want to relocate a Mitchell Highway slowdown zone 200 metres east to improve left-turn access.
The developers of Orange's new greyhound racing track have asked the council to move the Mitchell Highway's 50-80km/h speed zone transition. The developers want to extend the slower limit to cover Perc Griffith Way, 200 metres further east than it sits now.
The speed zone move would let them upgrade left-turn treatments at the intersection. The speed zone move was a condition when the track was first approved in April.
The council cannot change speed limits itself; it can only recommend that Transport for NSW assess the proposal. The council will vote on referring the matter to Transport NSW at its 6 October meeting.
