Gang Gang's Sundowner Festival returns to Downer on October 31

Sundowner Festival returns for its third year on October 31 with two stages and 1000-capacity crowds.

Three musician brothers who run Gang Gang Cafe in Downer have expanded their independent music festival into one of Canberra's most ambitious events. Sundowner spans 11 hours across two stages.

The music includes indie rock, post-punk, experimental pop and rap, plus underground dance music. The lineup includes Rolling Blackout Coastal Fever from Melbourne and Dust from Newcastle.

The festival has market stalls, food trucks and roving magicians. Sam Conway says this is what the brothers are most proud of.

They value it more than growing the cafe itself. The festival matters because venues and promoters across Australia face climbing costs.

Production and insurance costs are rising.
