Piper Butcher releases pop-country EP after years on Newcastle circuit
The 22-year-old Newcastle artist released her second EP Directions. She appeared on Australian Idol and shifted toward contemporary pop-country.
Piper Butcher has spent the past decade proving herself on stage rather than chasing social media followers. The 22-year-old Newcastle singer started performing at 11.
She worked her way through cover gigs around the city and appeared on Australian Idol. She has appeared at West Best Bloc Fest, Dashville Skyline, BigSound and the Gympie Music Muster.
She spent the past year playing in Brad Cox's band. Directions is a new five-track EP written over four years.
She is now settled in pop-country territory. This is a shift from the blues-rock and Americana of her earlier work.
The softer track Porcelain Pillars showcases a gentler side her producer Andy Mak encouraged her to embrace. Butcher says she's finally comfortable with who she is as an artist at 22.
She moved past the angst of her debut EP September. Now she explores the good and bad parts of life.
