Couple sentenced to community work for soliciting child abuse images
Couple sentenced to community work for attempting to solicit child abuse images.
A Ballarat magistrate sentenced Laidlaw and Williams to community corrections orders rather than imprisonment. The magistrate called their actions repulsive criminal offending.
In 2020, the pair solicited a girl riding a scooter from their car. The pair asked her to pose for nude photographs.
When the girl approached their vehicle, they asked to speak to her alone. Laidlaw made the request explicit, pointing to her genitals and demanding a yes or no answer.
The victim said maybe before leaving. Police found 12 naked images and two videos of underage children on Laidlaw's phone.
Magistrate Ronald Saines said sexual offending involving children was the worst kind of exploitation. He warned Laidlaw that any future involvement would lead to a very long prison sentence.
Laidlaw must complete 150 hours of unpaid community work. Williams must complete 120 hours and engage in alcohol rehabilitation.
