Driver jailed after three shotgun blasts filmed for Snapchat
Brandon Rogan was sentenced to four years for firing a sawn-off shotgun three times in May.
Brandon Rogan stole his mother's car. In May last year, he fired a sawn-off shotgun out the window twice while driving through Lake Macquarie.
Rogan filmed himself on Snapchat during at least two of the incidents and posted videos to his followers. About an hour after the second shot, he fired the shotgun a third time outside a house in Burley Street.
Police started a manhunt and tracked him across Maitland and Greta. They chased him at 150km/h on the M1 motorway.
He returned to his mother's house at Coal Point, where officers arrested him. The 29-year-old was suffering from drug-induced psychosis.
Judge Tim Gartelmann noted Rogan's troubled upbringing, drug use, and unmedicated mental health issues. Rogan was sentenced to four years maximum with a non-parole period of two years and six months.
He can be released in December 2027.

Why it mattersThe case shows how serious firearms offences result in lengthy sentences. This is especially true for public discharge that endangers shoppers. An offender's mental health struggles do not prevent lengthy sentences.
AustraliaA Lake Macquarie resident is now serving time for creating public danger in a busy local area, with broader implications for how courts handle armed offences combined with mental health factors.
