Townsville winger makes Rugby League World Cup debut without visiting Wales
Sian Williams makes her Wales debut at the World Cup without ever visiting Wales.
Sian Williams is a 22-year-old North Queensland winger who will represent Wales in Friday's Rugby League World Cup match against Samoa. The match is at CommBank Stadium in Sydney.
Williams was born and raised in Townsville. She qualifies through her father, who is from the Welsh town of Prestatyn.
This year marks the first time Wales qualified a women's squad to the World Cup. Coach Tom Brindle recruited players with Welsh heritage from Australia's NRLW.
Fellow recruit Tayla Preston is captain of Canterbury. She qualifies through her maternal grandfather.
Williams has only met her Welsh relatives through video calls. They will watch from the UK on Friday morning.
Wales lost 70-6 to England in their opening match. But Williams is determined to pull the squad together.
