Dirt bikers filmed doing wheelies and running red lights near shopping centre

Dirt bikers filmed doing wheelies and running red lights near East Maitland shops.

Footage captured on October 22 near East Maitland shows a group of riders, some appearing to be teenagers, on dirt bikes doing wheelies back and forth across traffic. A witness watched from about 6.40pm and said there were up to a dozen bikes involved, with others spectating.

The riders ducked in and out of traffic and appeared to ignore police who were at the scene. NSW Police Minister Yasmin Catley called the behaviour brazen and incredibly dangerous.

Police are investigating and asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers. The video has sparked concern among Hunter residents about ongoing illegal riding on public roads.
