Fanny Lumsden explores family traditions on new album
ARIA-winning singer Fanny Lumsden releases album Traditions. The album explores balancing inherited family customs with her own independence and career.
Fanny Lumsden grew up on a farm in western NSW. She spent much of her early life learning family traditions.
These included Sunday roasts, respect for elders, early starts and piano lessons. She is now the two-time ARIA Award winner.
She has made an album about wrestling with those traditions as an adult. The album explores which customs to keep and which to abandon.
Her latest single is called By The River. It features Australian music legend Paul Kelly.
The song draws on the Lumsden family ritual of going to the river every night in summer. Lumsden has released five albums over 15 years.
She remains self-managed, handling both her creative and business work.
