Homeless at 10, runner tackles 122km for awareness
Sam Lowe became homeless at age 10; now runs 122 kilometres in October for homelessness awareness and support.
Sam Lowe's first night homeless felt like an adventure. Lowe was 10, camping in Launceston City Park with her mother, not yet understanding they had nowhere to go.
But novelty faded fast. Years followed of couch surfing, jumping between shelters and caravan parks, sleeping in delivery bays during rain.
Lowe missed more than six months of school. At 11, her brother took her in; her family held her steady through the rest of schooling.
Now 21, Lowe will run 122 kilometres non-stop on October 23 in Nedd's Uncomfortable Challenge, inspired by advocate Nedd Brockmann's cross-Australia run for homelessness awareness. She's raising funds for families experiencing what she lived through.
