Real Madrid scores three late goals to stun Roma 4-3
Real Madrid came back from 3-1 down to win 4-3 with three goals in the final six minutes, all from corners.
José Mourinho returned to Stadio Olimpico for the first time since managing the club, and enjoyed the reunion as Real Madrid completed an astonishing comeback on Wednesday night. Roma dominated for most of the match.
Marten de Roon opened the scoring, and after Kylian Mbappé equalised in his 100th Champions League appearance, Donyell Malen struck twice in quick succession to put Roma 3-1 ahead. Real Madrid turned the game on its head.
In the final just six minutes, all three stemming from set pieces, Carlos Espí, Endrick and Antonio Rüdiger scored to steal a 4-3 win at a stunned stadium. Mourinho, a popular figure who led Roma to a Conference League title and Europa League final during his time there, acknowledged the swing.
"Roma were better in all aspects early on. When it was 3-1 everyone probably thought the game was over," he said.
