5000 gather in Launceston to celebrate men's role models and health
Bass MP Jess Teesdale is hosting a 5000-person event on November 20 to celebrate male role models and men's health.
Launceston's Legends of Launceston event will run from 4pm to 10pm at Riverbend Park on November 20. The event will celebrate ten local men chosen as positive role models.
The federal Bass MP created the event after speaking with men's health advocates. Ms Teesdale learned about the struggles men face in regional areas.
Regional men die on average 13 years younger than their female peers, Ms Teesdale said. Many men miss routine health checks.
The event pairs food and live music with free health checks. Information will come from health providers and organisations.
Entertainment includes local bands and a Star Wars group. Sports groups like Targa Tasmania and the Tasmania Devils will also be there.
Community members nominated the ten legends. They were chosen from people who help neighbours, volunteer, or support their families.
The event marks International Men's Day.
