Playford's rapid growth chokes roads as population explodes

Over 10,000 residents petition for urgent road upgrades as Playford absorbs ten new residents per day.

Playford's population grew from approximately 71,000 in 2006 to 116,000 today and is projected to reach 184,000 by 2046. Playford absorbs 10 residents each day on average, making it Adelaide's fastest-growing council area.

Curtis Road, the main arterial connecting eight northern suburbs, is clogged. During peak hour, a single carriageway built for semi-rural traffic now struggles with the volume.

More than 10,000 residents signed a petition tabled in parliament describing the congestion as no longer safe and urging dual lanes, wider Main North Road, and more exit lanes on the Northern Expressway.

One in five new South Australian homes last year were built in Playford.
