Woman dies in Flagstaff Hill crash; Kia catches fire
A 29-year-old from Port Noarlunga died when her Kia hit a tree and caught fire at Flagstaff Hill.
Emergency services rushed to Manning Rd in Adelaide's southern suburbs just before 4am on Friday after a Kia sedan crashed head-on into a gumtree and ignited. Residents were woken by the impact and immediately tried to help the trapped driver.
Despite efforts from neighbours and emergency crews, the woman died at the scene. The fire was so intense that water from residents' hoses turned to steam metres away.
Investigators found the car had first struck metal barriers near a pedestrian crossing about 200 metres before the tree. Police are investigating what caused the crash.
