Angus and Simon regret calling out MKR rivals after low scores

MKR contestants Angus and Simon got only 55 points after calling out gatecrashers, fearing the low score was payback.

South Australian best mates Angus and Simon returned to their Last Orders instant restaurant on Tuesday and again called out gatecrashers at their table. Angus and Simon received only 55 points, just one point above last place, when rival teams scored their dishes.

Looking back, they think their blunt opinions backfired. The judges said nothing was technically wrong with the dishes: duck and shiitake dumplings, lamb cutlets with pickle salad, and bread and butter pudding with black sesame ice cream.

But the scores came in much lower than Angus and Simon expected. Angus admitted the thought that rivals might score them down as payback had never crossed his mind before the cook.

He believed gatecrashers' promises that they would judge fairly, not on personality or grudges. Simon said he was "perplexed" by scores he thought didn't match the food's quality.

Why it mattersMy Kitchen Rules shows Angus and Simon that trash talk and bold opinions carry real costs when the people you criticise then judge your work.
