Nintendo revives midnight game launches with Zelda Switch 2 remake

Nintendo revived midnight game launches with a 4K Switch 2 Zelda remake, drawing about 500 fans to queue at midnight.

The midnight launch for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 drew fans to retailers worldwide. London's Oxford Street and Melbourne both saw queues form.

Nintendo's senior executives staffed checkouts. Digital downloads have made midnight queues rare.

This release reversed that trend. Fans got a communal gathering to celebrate fandom.

Early copies came with exclusive collectibles: a limited ocarina-shaped keyring and a replica of the original 1998 N64 box. The remake is a 4K overhaul of the beloved 1998 N64 classic.

One London buyer queued for four hours. The store closed while hundreds still waited.

He received his box by post later.
