Firmus IPO fails, but Tasmania Premier won't abandon the company
The AI data company's IPO collapsed last week. But the Tasmanian government is still supporting it with a community benefit fund.
Firmus failed to attract investors last week. Premier Jeremy Rockliff isn't stepping back, saying the AI data company remains committed to Tasmania.
To address community concerns, the government announced a local benefit fund. Companies would give money to support infrastructure, training, and community groups.
Rockliff couldn't explain enforcement or payment amounts. Labor pushed for the plan.
The Greens are cautiously hopeful. Firmus already sponsors local sports teams and is creating a community grants program.
