Former aged care worker gets community order for child abuse material possession
A Wollongong man pleaded guilty to possessing 45 child abuse images, mostly AI-generated, and received an 18-month community correction order.
Ian Svegovic, 68, from Farmborough Heights, pleaded guilty in Wollongong Local Court to possessing child abuse material. Federal police found 45 images on his laptop during a November 2025 raid.
Of these, 32 were animated or AI-generated images of pre-pubescent children. The remaining 13 were child-like sex dolls.
One was a real child being sexually assaulted. Svegovic told police he came across the material while searching for hentai and manga online.
He admitted to accessing the sites for about two years. He said it was driven by frustration, depression and anxiety.
The judge noted the case was at the lower end of seriousness because almost all files were digitally created. He stressed that viewing such material creates demand that harms real children worldwide.
Svegovic lost his job in aged care and disability services as a result of the proceedings.
