Jetstar plane clears van by about 15 metres at Townsville
The pilots spotted the van near the runway edge while the plane was coming in from Brisbane.
A Jetstar Airbus A320 was approaching Townsville Airport from Brisbane on October 7. The pilots spotted a white van near the edge of the runway.
The plane flew over the van with about 15 metres to spare. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau, which investigates transport safety, is treating it as a serious incident.
Jetstar said the flight landed normally and without incident. The ATSB is looking at four incidents at or near Townsville Airport in the past two months, including this one.
The Defence Force, which shares the airport, says a vehicle entered a restricted area.
