Honeywell administrative staff at Mater down to four, source says
Dr Amanda Cohn calls the deal's failure a 'once-in-a-generation opportunity' to return the Mater to public hands.
The Mater's public-private deal is on the brink of collapse. It is a deal between NSW Health and a private company, Novacare.
There is speculation the NSW government will soon end it. An inquiry recommended ending the deal in August.
The government is due to respond in November. Dr Amanda Cohn chaired the inquiry.
She calls the failure of the deal a 'once-in-a-generation opportunity' to return the Mater to public hands. Novacare hands the hospital's maintenance work to Honeywell, a large American company.
A source says Honeywell's office staff at the hospital are down to four on site. Honeywell was accused at the inquiry of falsifying records and destroying documents.
Honeywell denied the claims. It blamed the mould on infrastructure failures.
The Newcastle Herald reported in June that Novacare had dodged $177 million in financial penalties over failures at the Mater.
- Four onsite, down from 10 positions
- Honeywell office staff
- $177 million, reported in June
- Penalties dodged by Novacare
- November
- Government response
- North Carolina
- Honeywell headquarters
Why it mattersDr Cohn says the NSW government may well be on the line for millions more. That depends on how the legal battles between the parties end.
AustraliaNewcastle patients could see a change in who runs the Mater, which is set for a big share of a $400 million NSW hospital maintenance program.
