Angela Hiscock started Walk 4 Hope in 2014 as a small walk with friends to help cope with Huntington's disease in her family and raise awareness. Unexpectedly, 100 people showed up.
The Lake Macquarie walk has grown every year. On Sunday, about 300 registered participants walked at Speers Point.
They raised more than $150,000 for Huntingtons Australia. The walk is now the first and longest-running Walk 4 Hope in the country.
Seven similar walks are held every year across the states and territories. Hiscock's first husband died from the inherited neurodegenerative disorder.
Two of her daughters now live with it.
