Thousands march through Sydney in pro-Palestine demonstrations
Thousands marched through Sydney's CBD on Sunday. Pro-Palestine rallies also took place in major cities and regional areas across Australia.
Thousands gathered at Hyde Park in Sydney on Sunday. They marched through the CBD in a pro-Palestine demonstration about the war in Gaza.
Protesters held signs demanding sanctions on Israel. Activist Grace Tame spoke to the crowd.
She framed the protest as a stand against violence, not hatred. Greens senator Mehreen Faruqi criticized Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for how he handled the conflict.
Similar rallies took place in Canberra, Hobart and other cities. The Gaza health ministry reported more than 74,000 Palestinians killed and more than 175,000 injured.
