Brisbane chairman confirms Michael Maguire will stay as long-term Broncos coach

Broncos chairman Karl Morris said Michael Maguire is locked in as the club's coach for years to come, despite a turbulent 2026 season.

The Broncos have backed Michael Maguire to remain as head coach beyond his current contract, which runs to the end of 2027. Chairman Karl Morris said the club wants Maguire as its long-term coach and is considering a standard employment contract with no fixed end date, rather than a traditional coaching deal.

This would avoid annual speculation about his contract status. Maguire won Brisbane a premiership in 2025 but has faced player unrest this season over his training methods.

Why it mattersMaguire's contract status has been a constant talking point this season. This statement removes the annual uncertainty and lets him focus on rebuilding.
