India climbs up to fourth in World Test Championship after Bangladesh stumbles
India moved up to fourth place in the World Test Championship after West Indies defeated Bangladesh in Mirpur.
West Indies bowled Bangladesh out for 142 on the final day, then chased down 170 with eight wickets in hand. Roston Chase took 5 for 36.
The loss cost Bangladesh ranking points. India now sit at 51.52 per cent with 68 points from 11 matches.
Bangladesh dropped to 47.62 per cent with 40 points from seven matches. That nearly four-point gap gives India breathing room in the race for a top-two finish, which would secure a place in the World Test Championship final.
Australia leads the standings at 75 per cent, followed by New Zealand at 72 per cent and South Africa at 66 per cent. India's climb past Bangladesh improves their mathematical odds with more matches still to play than some rivals above them.
Bangladesh host West Indies again in Sylhet on 5 November. Another defeat there would push them further back and solidify India's fourth-place position.
