Netflix ousts movie boss in major executive overhaul
Netflix fired movies head Dan Lin, part of a 1,000-employee restructure that includes replacing its top content executive.
Netflix confirmed it fired Dan Lin, its movies boss, over the weekend. Dan Lin's departure followed Bela Bajaria's exit days earlier from the top content role, which oversees a US$20 billion budget.
Doug Belgrade, Lin's deputy, was also swept out. The overall restructure removed 1,000 staff, or 6 per cent of the workforce, mostly from legal, tech, and HR.
Peter Rice, a veteran Fox and Disney executive, was brought in to replace Bajaria. Netflix's share price has fallen 40 per cent over the past year, and growth has stalled despite remaining the market leader.
The company is hunting for a replacement film head and considering candidates including Pamela Abdy and Mike De Luca, recently ousted from Warner Bros.
